Last week, my Pixie Cot dwarf apricot tree burst into bloom. After its anemic start last year, I’m surprised by how many blooms it had this ye. Because this will only be the second year for the tree, I’ll end up picking off all (or almost all) of the fruit before it can mature. I don’t think I can resist a taste for another year.

With temperatures fluctuating so wildly above and below freezing in the past few weeks, the tree needed some protection when the flower buds first began to form. For about 10 days, I kept the tree wrapped loosely in cloth to prevent the buds from freezing off, and the precaution worked!

I’m looking foward to seeing some more vigorous growth from this tree. I pruned it in late Janaury, and it’s already taking shape nicely.
